Welcome to nostalgia2strokes

Welcome to the group. This is the home of classic and performance two-strokes in the UK — RDs, TZRs, RGs, KR1S, NSRs, RS and Mito machines, and everything else that rings, buzzes and clears its throat on the overrun. We run a specialist two-stroke workshop in Surrey: servicing, full restoration, in-house vapour blasting and motorcycle painting, all done in-house by people who ride these machines. Post your bikes, your projects and your questions — workshop photos are always welcome. Introduce yourself and tell us what you ride.

TYGA stainless race exhausts on the TZR250 3MA1

A satisfying day on the 3MA1. The TYGA stainless expansion chambers went on this afternoon — hand-polished, properly jetted and torqued down with new copper gaskets. The front pipe clearance took a little gentle persuasion, but the finish is exactly right for a period race-replica build. It'll get its first proper run next week. If you've got a 3MA1 sitting on a tired original system, this is the single biggest transformation you can make.

The Rothmans NSR — when race paint ruled the road

Some liveries are just paint. The Rothmans colours are a whole era — blue, white and red laid over a V-twin that won everything worth winning. This NSR came to us for a sympathetic refresh: decals preserved exactly as they left, paint corrected by hand, and every fastener vapour blasted back to factory finish. Machines like this were the posters on our bedroom walls. Keeping one on the road exactly as it should look is the whole reason the workshop exists. What was the bike on your wall?

Four carburettors, four identical answers

Bank-of-four day in the workshop. Ultrasonic bath, new jets matched across all four, float heights checked twice, and every diaphragm inspected under a bright light before it goes back. A inline-four two-stroke will happily run on three-and-a-half good carburettors — and it will feel flat, eat pistons and foul plugs doing it. Balanced and synced, the difference on the road is night and day. If your inline stumbles off the bottom end, the carbs are the first place we look.

TZR250 3XV — the last of the real racer-replicas

The 3XV is arguably the peak of the small-bore racer-replica: a proper V-twin, a dry weight that shames modern 600s, and handling that still embarrasses bigger machinery on a tight B-road. This one arrived tired and left sharp — new consumables, carb setup on the rolling road, suspension sorted and a full detail. They're getting harder to find in honest condition every year. If you own one, ride it. If you're looking for one, talk to us.

Vapour blasting — the before and after never gets old

One of the most satisfying jobs we do. A crusty, salt-marked crankcase goes into the vapour blasting cabinet and comes out an hour later in a soft, even satin finish — no media lodged in oil galleries, no distorted castings, no over-polished alloy. Every engine case, bracket and small part on a full rebuild goes through the cabinet before it's allowed back on the bike. Postal vapour blasting available UK-wide: post us your parts, we blast them and post them back. Message us for details.
